No ladybird died for this, I have moved house and there is a ladybird nest, they come inside the house and die. I vacuum them when I don't collect them. 
Even though they're dead I have frozen them to kill any mites and threaten them with thymol to prevent mould while they fully dry. 
They may not be 100% perfect, when they die they dry up a little and may have a leg or two missing.
