House Sparrow Wings | 1 Pair | Small

European House Sparrow Wings!

Male & Female variant

Approximately 10-12cm when spread

(1 pair x 2 matching wings)

House sparrow are an introduced species to Australia and a NON CITES listed abundant species.

The house sparrow is something that can not reduced in population size due to inhabiting most of the world.

The unfortunate thing for us is they can spread various avian diseases and parasites into your poultry coop. This is something we are currently battling with when Coccidiosis started to take out some of our poultry and the neighbouring coop. The vet suspects it's spreading by house sparrow as we are not in close proximity to our rural neighbours but our coop can have approximately 50 or more sparrow plague through daily to get the feed.

It was noted that in our area house sparrow numbers were increasing. I decided to start using a sparrow trap to try and dispatch some of them that enter my chicken coop (house) instead they go into a trap where I can easily clean and manage the spread of bird droppings to one contained area.

  • Suggestions for rehydration

Wings should never be left damp, dry as soon as possible. Wings are preserved with chrome tanning.

Relax wings with a damp paper towel, no longer than 24 hours. When wings start to flex pin into position (similar to pinning insects). Allow to dry thoroughly as soon as possible.

You can sun dry them or cover with borax crystal or borax powder to remove the access moisture quickly.

Wings are still susceptible to mould or pershing if not redried immediately.
